Okay, so I’ve been seeing this bag everywhere lately, right? It’s called the Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. Sounds fancy, I know, but it’s actually pretty cool. I kept seeing it around, and thought to myself, “I gotta try to make this.”
First, I started looking up everything I could find about this YSL bag. Turns out, YSL stands for Yves Saint Laurent, some big-shot French fashion designer from a while back. They started in 1961, I think. And this bag is like a modern take on one of their classic styles, but without the big, flashy logos. Some folks online called it a “remake,” which made sense to me.
- Gathered a bunch of pictures online. I mean a LOT. Front, back, sides, inside, you name it.
- Started sketching it out, trying to get the shape just right. It’s got this flap in the front and rounded corners. Simple, but not easy to get perfect.
- Then I dug through my fabric scraps to find something that looked similar. Found some nice, soft leather that felt about right.
The real work started when I began cutting out the pattern pieces. I measured everything twice, no, three times, because one wrong cut and you’re screwed. Then, slowly but surely, I started stitching the pieces together.
My sewing machine was humming along, and bit by bit, the bag started to take shape. The hardest part was probably the flap. I wanted it to lay just right, you know? Took a few tries, to be honest. I ripped out some seams and redid them, but eventually, I got it looking pretty good, at least I thought so. Then I found another piece of leather and started making the strap.
Finishing Touches
After that, I added a simple lining, nothing too fancy, and attached the strap. And there it was! My very own, handmade version of the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. It might not be perfect. There are some stitches that don’t look perfect, but hey, I made it myself! It felt really good to take a fancy design and make it my own.
I’ve been carrying it around for a few days now, and I gotta say, I’m pretty proud of it. It holds all my stuff, and it looks pretty darn stylish if I do say so myself. Maybe I’ll try another one of these designer remakes sometime. It’s a fun challenge, and you end up with a unique bag that no one else has.
