Love the YSL June Box Bag? Check Out This Classic Style Remake

So, I decided to remake one of those fancy Yves Saint Laurent bags. It’s called the YSL JUNE BOX BAG, real classic style. I saw some pictures online, and I thought, “Hey, I can do that.” It looked simple enough, you know? Just a boxy little thing with a shiny logo.

First, I gathered my materials. I found some nice leather scraps from an old project, and I already had some basic tools lying around. I even managed to find a replica of that famous YSL logo online. It was not real gold, but it looked similar enough.

Then I got to work. I studied those online pictures like a hawk, trying to figure out the dimensions and how it was all put together. I drew out a rough pattern on some paper, making adjustments as I went along. It was like putting together a puzzle, a fun challenge for an old-timer like me.

  • Cutting the leather was the next step. I carefully measured each piece and used my sharpest knife to make clean cuts. This part took some time, had to make sure everything was just right.
  • After that, I started stitching. I used a strong thread and a simple saddle stitch, just like I learned way back when. It was slow going, but kind of relaxing, like knitting.
  • Finally, I attached the hardware, the buckles, and the straps. The last touch was the YSL logo. I carefully glued it to the front flap, making sure it was centered and secure.

The whole process took me a couple of days, working on and off. I made a few mistakes along the way, had to redo some stitches, and adjust the pattern a couple of times. But you know what? That’s part of the fun. It is the enjoyment that I made it myself.

And there it was, my very own homemade YSL JUNE BOX BAG. It’s not perfect, a bit rough around the edges, you can see the handiwork in it. But I’m pretty darn proud of it. It looks quite similar to those fancy ones they sell in stores, but mine has character, it tells a story.

Now, I’m not saying mine is as good as the real deal. Those YSL folks, they’re professionals. They use the best materials, and they’ve got years of experience. But for an old guy like me, just tinkering around in his workshop, I think I did alright. It’s not about having the most expensive bag, it’s about the satisfaction of creating something with your own two hands. And that YSL logo looks so nice, even though it is not original. I think it’s the same feeling that people call it “vintage” and “modern”.

I even showed it to my granddaughter. She’s got a phone full of pictures, all about fashion and style. She said it looked “cool” and “retro.” I guess that means it is not too bad. Maybe I will make some more bags, try out different styles. Who knows, maybe I will even start selling them. It is not to make money, I don’t want to make a fortune by it. Just want to share my work, make some people happy. That’s all.

This whole experience, it just goes to show, you’re never too old to learn something new, to try your hand at a new project. And who knows, you might just surprise yourself with what you can create. Those other bags, LouLou bag or LE CARRE SATCHEL BAG, I think I can make them, too. Just need to find some more leather and some free time.
