Today I’m messing around with a Patek Philippe, specifically the Calatrava 5227R-001. I wanted an original order, so I went through a bunch of steps to make it happen.
First, I did a lot of searching online. I used platforms like Chrono24 to get an idea of what’s out there. I saw some used ones in really good condition from 2020 and 2021, complete with the original box and papers. That gave me a good starting point.
Then I looked into the details of the watch. It’s got this self-winding caliber 324 movement, which is pretty sweet. I read that it has 29 jewels and 213 parts, and it beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The ivory lacquered dial has these gold Dauphine hands and a date window at 3 o’clock. It looked really elegant in the pictures.
I also checked out the case. It’s 18k rose gold, measuring 39.0 x 9.24 millimeters. There’s this cool inner hinge that you can’t see from the outside. It’s all very sleek and well-designed. I was getting more and more excited about getting my hands on one.
Sourcing the Parts
Next, I started looking for the parts. I wanted everything to be authentic, so I made sure to find original components. It took some time, but I managed to get my hands on a genuine caliber 324 S C movement. I also found an 18k rose gold case with that hidden hinge, just like the original. The ivory dial and gold hands were also on my list, and I sourced those from a reputable dealer.
Putting It All Together
With all the parts in hand, I began assembling the watch. I carefully installed the movement into the case, making sure everything was aligned perfectly. I then attached the dial and set the hands. The date window mechanism was a bit tricky, but I got it working smoothly. I felt a real sense of accomplishment as I saw the watch taking shape.
Testing and Admiring
Once assembled, I tested the watch thoroughly. I wound it up and checked the timekeeping accuracy. It was running perfectly, just like a brand new Patek Philippe. I also admired the craftsmanship. The rose gold case, the ivory dial, and the subtle details all came together beautifully. It really felt like a luxury timepiece.
Finally, I put the watch on my wrist. It felt amazing. The weight, the look, and the feel of it were all perfect. I knew I had created something special. This Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001 was now a part of my collection, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
So, that’s my journey of remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I hope you enjoyed hearing about my process. This watch is a true testament to the beauty and complexity of fine watchmaking.
