Okay, here is my story about getting that fancy Omega watch, the Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon”.
So, I’ve been eyeing this Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” watch for a while now. It’s a mouthful to say, I know, but man, is it a looker. It’s got this dark, kinda rough look, like a chunk of the moon itself. And you can see all them little gears and stuff inside, which I think is pretty neat.
First, I started doing some digging online, you know, just to see what people were saying about it. Turns out, it’s a pretty big deal in the watch world. It’s a tribute to that Apollo 8 mission back in ’68 when they first saw the far side of the moon. That’s some history right there. I also found out that the original moonwatch, the Speedmaster Professional 105.012, was worn by Buzz Aldrin in 1969. I always think that was cool!
Then, I started looking into where I could actually get my hands on one. I checked out a few different stores, just to compare prices and see what was available. This watch ain’t cheap, that’s for sure. But, I figured if you’re gonna get a nice watch, you gotta be ready to shell out some cash.
I finally found a store that had it in stock. Let me tell you, when I saw it in person, it was even better than the pictures. It’s a big watch, which is good, ’cause I got big wrists. It just felt solid and well-made, you know?
- The sales guy was showing me all its features, like how the design looks like the surface of the moon and how you can see the insides moving around. It’s got all them hands, like a chronograph, I guess that is what they call it. It was pretty cool, I gotta admit.
- I tried it on, walked around the store a bit, pretended like I was on a moon mission or something. Just kidding but you know, it is the Apollo 8. It felt good on my wrist, nice and weighty. I could tell this was a serious timepiece.
After hemming and hawing for a bit, I decided to go for it. I mean, this watch is gonna last forever, and it’s something I can pass down to my kids, right? At least, that’s what I told myself. And my wife was fine with it. So, I whipped out the credit card, took a deep breath, and bought the darn thing.
Happy Ending
Now, I’m wearing this Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” every day. It’s definitely a conversation starter. People ask me about it all the time. And yeah, maybe it was a bit of a splurge, but I don’t regret it one bit. It’s a reminder of that amazing Apollo 8 mission, and it’s just a darn cool watch. Plus, I heard that the Speedmaster Professional usually holds its value well, especially vintage models and limited editions. Maybe my watch will be worth something someday.
If you’re into watches and you got the money to spend, I’d say check this one out. It’s a solid piece of machinery, and it’s got a great story behind it. You will not regret it, man!
