Oh, that watch, you know, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro 45mm 4G thing? My grandson, he got one. Fancy thing, looks like something from them space movies. Shiny, big screen, tells ya more than just the time, I tell ya.
He says it tracks his walkin’, his sleep, even his heart beatin’. Like, why would ya need to know all that? I get up when the sun peeks, I sleep when it gets dark. My heart beats, I know it does, I’m still kickin’, ain’t I? But these young folks, they like all them numbers and charts.
It’s got this GPS thing, he says. Shows where you’re going. Never got lost in my life, not really. Know the fields, the roads, the trees. But he uses it when he goes joggin’. Says it helps him stay on track. Probably just showin’ off, if you ask me.
The watch, it’s got a big face, easy to see, even for my old eyes. My grandson fiddles with it all the time, tappin’ and swipin’. Says he can even answer calls on it. Imagine, talkin’ to your wrist! What’ll they think of next?
- It tells the weather, too. Like I can’t look out the window and see if it’s rainin’!
- And it buzzes at him, all the time. Reminders, he says. Reminds him to move, to drink water, to breathe. Like he’d forget to breathe!
It’s supposed to be tough, made of some fancy metal, titanium they call it. And the glass, sapphire, they say. Sounds expensive. He better not scratch it up, I told him. My grandson, he’s a bit clumsy sometimes.
This watch thing, it’s got 4G, whatever that means. Connects to the internet, he says. So he can get messages, emails, all that stuff. Right there on his wrist. Why can’t folks just talk to each other anymore? Always lookin’ at their screens.
The battery, he says, lasts a long time. That’s good, I guess. Don’t want it dyin’ on ya in the middle of the day. My old clock, wind it up once a week, keeps tickin’. Simple and reliable, that’s what I like.
I saw him wear it in the pool, too. Waterproof, he says. Guess that’s handy if you forget to take it off. Not like my old watch, rusts if it gets wet.
He paid a lot for it, that watch. Too much, if you ask me. But he seems happy with it. Says it helps him stay healthy, organized. Maybe he’s right. But I don’t need no fancy watch to tell me what to do. I’ve been doin’ just fine without one, all these years.
