Well, lemme tell ya ’bout this Lisa Jones and that fancy watch company, Patek somethin’-or-other. Don’t rightly know how to say it, sounds foreign to me. But folks say it’s a big deal, this watch thing.
So, this Lisa gal, she’s a big shot now, runnin’ the show in America. President, they call her. Fancy title, eh? Guess she’s gotta be smart, tellin’ all them rich folks what watches to buy. Must be nice, workin’ with shiny things all day. Better than milkin’ cows, that’s for sure.
This Patek company, it’s old. Been around longer than me, and that’s sayin’ somethin’! Family-owned, they say. The Stern somethings. Guess they like keepin’ it in the family, just like us farmers. Though we ain’t got no fancy watch business, just chickens and pigs.
- Now, they got this fella, Thierry, he’s the head honcho. President, just like Lisa.
- And his daddy, Philippe, he’s an “honorary” president. Sounds like he gets to sit around and do nothin’ all day, the lucky duck!
- Then there’s Laurent, he’s the CEO. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds important. Probably does all the hard work while them other two sip tea and count their money.
Heard tell some big company, LVMH or somethin’, bought Patek. Spent a whole lotta money, billions they say. Can’t even imagine that much money. Guess them watches must be real special. Made of gold, probably, with diamonds and such.
Folks talk about these watches like they’re some kinda treasure. Say they hold their value. Like a good piece of land, I guess. But land, you can grow things on it, feed your family. Don’t know what good a fancy watch does, ‘cept tell the time. And I can do that by lookin’ at the sun.
Now, they compare these Patek watches to Rolex watches. Another fancy name. Rolex, they say, is cheaper. For folks who ain’t as rich, I reckon. But if you want tradition, they say get a Patek. Tradition’s important, sure, but so is puttin’ food on the table.
So, this Lisa Jones, she’s got a big job. Sellin’ fancy watches to fancy folks. Good for her, I say. Everybody’s gotta make a livin’. Just hope she remembers where she come from, whoever she is. Don’t matter how much money you got, you’re still just folks.
Guess that’s all I gotta say ’bout this watch business. Makes my head spin, all them fancy names and big numbers. Gimme a good ol’ rooster crowin’ in the mornin’ any day. That’s how I tell time. And it don’t cost a dime.
