Well, ain’t this a fancy thing. What do they call it? A smart-watch? Humph, back in my day, a watch just told the time. Now, they do all sorts. This one here, it’s the Apple Watch SE 2023 40mm starlight aluminum case with starlight sport band, size S/M. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it?
Starlight, they call it. Looks kinda silver to me. Aluminum, that means it’s light, I guess. Like them tin cans we used to collect. Sport band, well, I reckon that means you can wear it when you’re running around. Which I don’t do much of these days, my knees ain’t what they used to be.

- It’s got a little screen, like a tiny TV on your wrist.
- They say it can track your sleep. Don’t need no watch for that, I know when I sleep well!
40mm, now what’s that mean? Mill-ee-meters. Fancy talk for how big it is. They say it’s for smaller wrists. Like mine, I suppose. My old watch, the one with the stretch band, that one fits just fine. This one, with the buckle, takes some fiddling.
This Apple Watch, it does more than just tell time. It’s got GPS, whatever that is. Like a map, they say. And Bluetooth, for talking to your phone. Don’t need that, I got my phone right here in my purse. And Wi-Fi, so it can get on the internet. Imagine that, your watch on the internet!
They say it can track your fitness too. How many steps you take, how fast your heart beats. Don’t need a watch for that neither, I know when I’m getting my heart pumping, like when I chase that darn squirrel out of my garden. And NFC, they call it. For paying, like with your phone. Just wave your wrist, they say. Seems like magic to me.
This watch, it’s got a shiny case. Starlight, they call it. Like I said, looks silver to me. And the band, it’s soft, like rubber. Starlight too. Everything’s starlight these days. They probably got starlight lipstick too.
This watch, it’s supposed to be smart. But I don’t know, seems complicated to me. All them buttons and screens. I like things simple. Like a good cup of tea and a biscuit. Maybe I’ll get used to it. Maybe it’ll make my life easier. But right now, I’m just trying to figure out how to make the numbers bigger.
They say it can detect if you fall down. That’s something, I guess. For us old folks. But I don’t plan on falling down. I’m still spry, thank you very much. Just gotta take my time, that’s all. And watch where I’m going. Maybe this watch will help me with that.
They say it can help you sleep better. Track your sleep, they say. I sleep just fine. Don’t need no fancy watch to tell me that. But maybe, just maybe, it’ll tell me something I don’t know. Maybe it’ll tell me why I wake up at 3 am every night. Maybe it’s the squirrels. They’re always up to something.
This watch, it’s got a lot of features. Too many, if you ask me. But maybe that’s just me, an old woman who likes things simple. Maybe the young folks, they like all them bells and whistles. Maybe they need them. Me, I just need a watch that tells time. And maybe reminds me to take my pills.
